First drawing of the new year.

I recently attended my First. Ever. Baby Shower. It was incredible. We spent hours getting giddy on sugar in a room choked with balloons and sparkles. We also played several baby-related games. One of them involved listing all the items a baby might need in babyhood. In a fructose-induced stupor, the most relevant words I could think of were “Booties” and “Boobs”.
Happy 2013.

What I learnt on an Apple Farm

I’m back from the orchard (and somewhat wiser, I hope). Here’s what I learnt:
1. “Don’t think, just do.”
This was one of the first pieces of advice I received. Hard to swallow, being one of those people who likes to think. Sometimes it’s better to just get things done.
2. Many hands, light work.
It was quite refreshing being part of a well-oiled human machine.
3. Keep smiling.
Even if your hands are calloused, your body tired, and you have fewer teeth than a newborn.
4. There’s nothing wrong with putting a mouse out of its misery while you’re eating breakfast.
Ugh nngggggg garrrrr.
5. Never underestimate the power of flies in droves.
They’re surprisingly hard to swat.
6. Don’t eat so much you can’t bend over.
Apple picking requires quite a bit of bending. Gorging your face off tends to restrict such activity. I learnt this the hard way.
7. Keep fingernails trimmed.
It’s better that way.
8. Hills are only fun on the way down.
Especially if you happen to be riding a bicycle.
9. Fresh air still exists in some parts of the world.
It’s true. My lungs have never been happier.
10. The grass is not always greener.
Sometimes it’s brown. Other times, yellow.
11. Being offline does not mean the world no longer exists.
It felt unbelievably liberating to escape my computer’s clutches for a while.

I’m off to an apple farm!
That’s right, I’m going apple picking for a week! Not sure what this means exactly, but guess I’ll find out… and live to tell the tale. Hopefully.

Last night I experienced one of the most incredible storms of my life. It was loud and reckless and so beautiful. I tried to capture it on paper, but don’t think my drawing really does it justice…

After being knocked out by the flu and missing a drawing as a result, I can once again stand up without having to lean against a wall. Progress.
Here’s the latest drawing:

Happy weekend! You might relate to this rabbit by Monday.
